THE AVALANCHES FT. JAMIE XX

Every Single Weekend is a music video for The Avalanches featuring Jamie xx, directed by multidisciplinary artist Jonathan Zawada and produced by Subversus.

The film forms part of the wider creative direction Zawada developed with the band for their album No Bad Memories, an expansive fictional universe centred on Takumi Digital Archives. Spanning album artwork, imagined brands and products, retro advertisements, an interactive website and a companion film, the project explores how consumer imagery, technology and nostalgia become entangled with personal memory.

Within this world, Every Single Weekend follows an aspiring model auditioning for a commercial for El Dorado, a fictional soft-drink brand. Moving between the subdued reality of the casting process and the hyper-saturated optimism of the finished advertisement, the film uses dark humour and Zawada’s surreal visual language to examine the gap between the realities of image-making and the aspirational fantasies it creates.
