FISH SONG BIRD SONG

FISH SONG BIRD SONG

Fish Song Bird Song FINAL

Created for Artspace’s online project 52 ACTIONS(2020–21), this psychedelic audio-visual work reimagines the Weitou bridal lament 魚文, 鳥文(Fish Song, Bird Song). Using the symbolism of native fish and birds, the lament gives voice to a young bride’s sorrow as she leaves her natal home for an arranged marriage.

Chan fuses bold graphic language, neon typography, and a futuristic soundtrack to explore distance, memory, and matrilineal knowledge across generations. The work acknowledges Weitou elder Man Fung Kun, from whom Chan learnt the lament, foregrounding the lineage of transmission that underpins the piece.
